My FellowshipMy Canadian placement:Office of the Auditor General of Ontario My Canadian audit team:I was part of a team conducting an audit on red tape reduction, led by Manager Faizan Hanif. My most valuable learning:
How my Canadian colleagues and mentors helped me:I appreciated learning from them the importance of documenting our work in a methodical way that shows how conclusions are reached. What I enjoyed most:The conversations I had with the people. Everyone was very warm and welcoming. My audit plan:Fostering entrepreneursI developed my audit plan with the guidance of my mentors at the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario, Managers Faizan Hanif and Denis Kossovski. The connection to my country’s development priorities:In the past decade, government administrations have been prioritizing policies to diversify the economy to reduce the overreliance on tourism. Initiatives are being introduced to make finance more accessible to micro businesses and women. How CAAF and my host office helped:The training introduced new tools along with new ways to use existing tools to plan the audit. The mentoring highlighted the importance of communicating—from audit planning to reporting—with a purpose. The skills and knowledge I improved by developing this plan:The importance of focusing on significant risks using the “funnel” concept, which helps to design a focused and manageable audit that would be impactful. My future impact:The new knowledge I’m most excited to share with my colleagues:The concept of the equality lens that encourages auditors to consider the needs of a broader group of stakeholders. The difference I hope to make:Conducting audits that add value and improve the administration of programs, which ultimately would create positive impacts for citizens. My professional goals:I will keep practicing my drafting skills to better communicate the messaging of our audits. |
