This Featured Audit highlights how the Office of the Auditor General of the City of Ottawa examined the emergency preparedness and response activities of the City’s health services in 2017. It provides useful insights on an audit strategy based on reliance on an existing accreditation process. This strategy may become more common among auditors, who have had to rethink their audit plans and possibly the way they conduct audits after COVID-19.

Fare evasion is a risk that all public transit agencies have to manage to limit revenue loss and reduce the need to increase transit fares. This Featured Audit, highlights how the Auditor General for the City of Toronto used direct observations and other audit methods to better estimate the rates and financial impact of fare evasion on Toronto Transit Commission’s buses, streetcars, and subway. The audit also identified areas in need of improvement and made recommendations that will help the Toronto Transit Commission reduce the incidence and impact of fare evasion on operations.

Lessons Learned from the Pan-Canadian Climate Change Audit – 2016-2018

From 2016 to 2018, the provincial and federal legislative audit offices of Canada worked together to assess the progress made by Canadian governments in addressing climate change, one of the defining challenges of our time. Audit reports were produced in all jurisdictions and the project culminated with a summary collaborative report issued in March 2018. It was the first time that all these audit offices worked together on a project of this scope. In this special Featured Audit, Kristin Lutes, a contributor to the collaborative audit, describes how the project evolved and shares the key lessons that were learned during its execution.
