Amélie Bourret
Amélie Bourret is co-founder of Autrement dit, a plain-language consulting firm with a mission to help companies and organizations improve their performance by communicating better with their target audiences.
Autrement dit has won numerous awards for the excellence of its plain-language productions. In 2023, the firm received the Grand ClearMark Award, a distinction that each year selects the best written production from among a hundred or so North American submissions.
Throughout her career, Amélie has been involved in editing and rewriting a wide variety of informational documents, including books, reports, training materials, and internal policies in fields as diverse as health, ethics, the environment, and program evaluation. As a result, she has developed extensive experience in writing for a different of audiences.
Trained as an anthropologist, she organized numerous consultations with many audiences to understand their information needs and obtain their feedback on various documents. These consultations also involved analyzing the data collected and preparing reports.
She worked in public health for 15 years in research and program planning for individual and community development, including 10 years on the editorial team of the guide From Tiny Tot to Toddler. Updated every 2 years and printed in 100,000 copies, this guide for Quebec parents has been in existence since the early 80s.
Amélie holds a Master's degree and a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. She studied at Université Laval in Quebec City and at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She was also an active member of the board of directors of a Quebec daycare center for 10 years. She served as secretary-treasurer and then as president.
