Celebrating the Graduating International Fellows
Congratulations to CAAF’s 2023-2024 international Fellows! They graduated this month, after completing their nine-month Fellowships. The Fellowships are part of CAAF’s International Governance, Accountability and Performance Program, which aims to strengthen performance auditing and oversight in our partner countries. In the Fellowships, performance auditors complete on-the-job learning with Canadian legislative audit offices, participate in courses, and develop an audit plan that they will implement in their country. CAAF has delivered Fellowships since 1980 and 281 Fellows, from 54 countries, have now graduated. The 2023-2024 graduates are: Marcel Pinder and Sadie Steward Florence Abaganwa and Innocent Kayonde Bacary Badiane and Alpha Kécouta Seck Thang Huu Nguyen CAAF and our program partners came together to celebrate the Fellows’ graduation in Ottawa on July 11. We were delighted to be joined by the Fellows’ mentors from their Canadian host offices, staff from Global Affairs Canada, the Ambassador of Senegal, and a representative of the Guyana High Commission. At the ceremony, each Fellow presented on his or her audit plan project, and their mentors spoke about their experience working with the Fellows. We were also honoured to have three special guest speakers: Myriam Montrat, Director General for Sustainable Economic Growth Partnerships at Global Affairs Canada; Karen Hogan, Auditor General of Canada; and Michèle Galipeau, Chair of the CAAF Board of Directors. They spoke about the history and impact of the Fellowship program, thanked the many Canadian partners whose contributions make the Fellowships possible, and wished the Fellows well as they prepare for the next steps in their careers as performance auditors.
The Fellows have now returned home, where they will apply what they have learned, share new knowledge with their colleagues, and each carry out their planned audit. We wish them the best and are sure they will all make a positive impact in their office and for their country. As Auditor General Hogan said to the graduates: “As you advance in your careers, remember that you are equipped with the skills and knowledge to make a significant difference. Performance auditing is powerful for driving positive change. Never underestimate its value.” Thank You! Each year, the Fellows’ graduation is also an opportunity to thank the many partners who make this program possible. On behalf of CAAF and the Fellows, thank you to:
