Published in February 2020, Crossover of Audit and Evaluation Practices: Challenges and Opportunities brings together academic analysis with insights from experts to discuss the potential for collaboration in audit and evaluation practices between three professional disciplines.

The volume was edited by Maria Barrados, who previously held senior positions as Assistant Auditor General at the Office of the Auditor General of Canada and President of the Public Service Commission of Canada, and Jeremy Lonsdale, a Director at the United Kingdom’s National Audit Office.

The book includes 15 chapters written by 18 authors from across the globe, all of them experienced audit or evaluation practitioners. It is structured in three parts that deal respectively with theory, practice issues, and how the practices have worked together:

• Part One provides definitions of performance audit, internal audit and program evaluation.
• Part Two addresses several challenges that professionals face in applying the standards and principles that govern their practice.
• Part Three contains examples of organizational collaboration between the practices, how they have worked together, and the lessons that were learned from that experience. Specific cases from the US Government Accountability Office, UNESCO, UNDP and the Inter-American Development Bank illustrate what has worked or not and suggest reasons why.

Crossover of Audit and Evaluation Practices will give readers a better understanding of the activities and services that each of the three practices can provide and will offer insights to audit and evaluation professionals on how to bridge some of the divides between their practices by focussing on common strengths.
