Leading Successful Audits

 

Course Objectives

Leading successful audits is a complex task that requires auditors to master multiple elements: planning and scoping, quality control, professional judgement, continuous improvement, as well as people and relationship management.


This course will focus on three cross-cutting areas:

  • People, i.e. WHO you are working with and what is expected of the relationship; as well as leading up, leading down)
  • Content, i.e. WHAT work needs to be done: strategic thinking, scoping, knowledge of business, gathering evidence, developing recommendations, etc.
  • Process, i.e. HOW the work gets done, project management, etc.

Who Should Participate?

This course is targeted to auditors who have or will have the responsibility for supervising or managing the work of more junior auditors.

Format

This virtual course is delivered over 3 days. The course includes a mix of instructor-led content, interactive exercises, and break-out sessions.

  • Leading People – Building Relationships (Part 1)
  • Leading Content – Scoping Audits

Day 2 | 6 hours

  • Leading People – Building Relationships (Part 2)
  • Leading People – Nurturing Relationships
  • Leading People – Mending   Closing Relationships

Day 3 | 6 hours

  • Leading Process – Ensuring Audit Quality
  • Leading Thinking – Strategic Thinking
  • Scoping Presentations   Debrief

This course will require up to 5 hours of individual and group work between Day 2 and 3 outside of course hours. Participants will be asked to identify an audit topic and scope an audit.

Accreditation

Course hours can be submitted for CPE or CPD credits, subject to approval by IIA, CPA Canada, or other professional associations.
