Acknowledgements
The Canadian Audit & Accountability Foundation’s mission is to promote and strengthen public sector performance audit oversight and accountability in Canada and abroad through research, education, and knowledge sharing. To support this, we provide capacity development for public sector auditors and oversight committees, in Canada and in developing countries, helping them to work with other public officials for accountable government.
The Practice Guide to Auditing Gender Equality was developed as part of our International Legislative Oversight Program and our commitment to the integration of gender equality as a cross cutting theme in program implementation. This program approach to addressing gender equality fulfills the Global Affairs Canada (formerly Canadian International Development Agency) Policy on Gender Equality and our own Gender Policy (2007). Funding for this CCAF program is provided by Global Affairs Canada.
The consultative process undertaken for the Practice Guide project was extensive and included consultations with many leaders and professionals, on both an individual and collective basis, through the Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors (CCOLA) and other national and international stakeholder networks.
On behalf of our Board of Directors, we acknowledge the support and active contributions of the members of the advisory project team who guided the design and development of this Practice Guide1:

This project and the final Practice Guide would not have been possible without:
- the research and writing of CCAF Associates Michael J. McLaughlin and Jane Fuller, the principal authors of the Guide;
- the leadership provided by Yves Gauthier, CCAF’s Vice-President, International Programs, who chaired the Practice Guide's project team and Advisory Group;
- the contributions of John Reed, CCAF’s Vice-President, Performance Audit and Oversight, and Pierre Fréchette, CCAF’s Research Officer; and
- the support of CCAF staff members Julien Raynaud, Project Officer, Lynne Casiple, Computer Specialist and Webmistress, and Kate Gertz, International Programs Communications Officer.
Finally, we would like to extend our thanks to the individuals who contributed their skills to producing all the material for the Practice Guide website: Nicole Plamondon (translation), Laurel Hyatt (editing), and Paul Edwards (graphic design).
The promotion and attainment of gender equality is important for all countries to eliminate discrimination based on gender against women and girls, and men and boys in social, cultural, political, and economic aspects of life. This Practice Guide aims to assist public sector auditors in conducting performance audits on gender equality policies and programs, and on gender equality issues within broader audit topics. We hope you find it helpful and we welcome your feedback.
