Dame Meg Hillier

Dame Meg Hillier, MP

Member of Parliament (United Kingdom) for Hackney South and Shoreditch

Dame Meg Hillier has been a Member of the UK Parliament representing Hackney South and Shoreditch in East London since 2005. From 2015-2024, she was Chair of the powerful Public Accounts Committee – the cross-party committee that scrutinises the value for money of public spending and holds the Government to account for the delivery of public services. Meg was a founder member, and then Chair, of the Commonwealth Association of Public Accounts Committees from 2017 until 2022 working to support best practice across the Commonwealth. Meg has held elected office for 30 years starting as a local councillor in a London borough in 1994, elected as a founder member of the London Assembly (part of London’s city government) in 2000 and has been a board member of Transport for London.
