Kevin Sorenson was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000 as the Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Crowfoot in East Central Alberta. He was re-elected in five general elections and served as a MP for 19 years. As an MP, he held numerous positions, including Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (2015-2019), Minister of State, Finance (2013-2015), Chair, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (2010-2013), Chair, Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan (2010), Chair, Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs (2006-2010).
Most of his early career was spent farming on the family farm which was established in 1906. He’s the fourth generation to do so. He also owned and operated a Small Business, Sorenson Auction Service. Although still actively farming a much smaller number of acres, he refers to himself as semi-retired. He spends much of his winters in Arizona.
He continues to have an interest in Public Accounts and the importance of strong accountability and transparency measures in Government. Since 2022, he has served on the Senior Advisory Panel to the Auditor General of Canada. He’s also involved in various local boards and other community activities.
